Name and Designation: Kraken
Type: Heavy Aquatic Unit
Purpose: Transportation, heavy offense/defense unit
Dimensions:
HT: 60 Meters
Width: 20 Meters
Length: 125 Meters from mantle tip to end of longest tentacles.
WT: 75,000 Tons
Speed: 90 Knots maximum
Description: The Kraken resemble massive squids, though there are some distinct changes. Foremost, on the front of the mantle is a large set of jaws filled with plate teeth, meaning that instead of thousands of smaller teeth, there is just an upper plate and a lower plate of a razor sharp, single tooth.
Beneath this foreward set of jaws is a set of thin arms with gnarled claws. The Kraken have a multitude of tentacles, roughly thirty in number, some of which are far longer and stronger than the others. Lastly, a number of small tentacles protrude from the mid mantel of the Kraken. At the end of these tentacles is a natural, irridescent light which can glow a multitude of colors and varying degrees of brightness.
Armor:
While the skin of the Kraken is strong and immune to weaponry such as bullets and even large grade cannon shots, heavier weaponry such as heavy missiles and torpedoes can deliver some damage. The Kraken compensate for this with accelerated regeneration, which allows them to heal their wounds quickly.
Armaments:
-Incredibly strong tentacles, capable of dragging even the biggest and heaviest ships under.
-Can create large whirpools and waterspouts
-Can travel up on to shore up to three miles before becoming exhausted
-Can survive out of water for up to two days
-Tentacles are equipped with not only powerful suction cups but viciously sharp barbs as well. If a human were to be stabbed by a barb, the poison inside of them would result in death.
-Viciously strong jaws, both in the forward mantle and squid like beak hidden behind the tentacles. They are capable of sheering metal with ease.
-Rapid regeneration
-Plasma blast from either set of jaws
-Plasma orbs which can be volleyed from the tentacles
-Released in either a cloud or jet, the Kraken can secrete a sticky ink which binds to just about anything, impeding movement. The ink is also incredibly acidic, eating away at whatever it touches. The Kraken are immune to this ink.
-Capable of changing color to blend in with surroundings
-Capable of swimming virtually silently, making them invisible to sonar
-The Kraken's most curious ability is the large organ inside it which is nothing more than an open cavity. Its purpose is relatively simple. Smaller units of Angelenis' forces, such as the Doraros or Craros, can go inside of the Kraken and use them as aquatic transportation. The massive cavity is large enough to hold several thousand soldiers at once, or two Jalthoos with a smaller number of soldiers.
Equipment: None
Production History:
The Kraken were not an original creation of Angelenis. The mythic creatures had existed even when she was a human, spreading terror among sailors who had traversed the northern seas. When Angelenis began her conquest, she was able to witness the legendary power of the beasts.
In those days, the Kraken were a assembled into a close knit tribe with an elder Kraken being the leader of the clan. Around the time of Angelenis' conquest, a tragedy had befallen the tribe. The young one of the clan were rapidly dying off as a new, vicious predator arrived. This phantom creatured tricked the Kraken to the surface where they would be viciously attacked. The older Kraken would later find their corpses sinking to the bottom, covered in vicious stabs and cuts. The clan turned to the elder for some kind of salvation.
It was not long until salvation presented itself. Contact had been made for the first with the above world, the world of the land-dwellers and sky fliers. The elder himself swam into the shadows to make the first contact, meeting whom he mistook for the prophesized savior of the Kraken people. Who he truly met was none other than the Queen of Darkness, Angelenis.
The elder quickly rushed back to the Kraken people with the news that he had met the christ, the savior of their faith. In three days time, the entire Kraken nation would assemble on the shores and swim with her into paradise. Not only was it the end of the persecution from the mysterious creatures, it was the salvation of their kind.
The three days came and went and on the morning of the fourth day, the sea came alive as the Kraken's swam towards shore. One after another, they beached themselves on the sandy shores, waiting for their salvation. And yet, she was not there. Perhaps they had come to early, they figured. And so, the Kraken waited.
The Kraken wound up waiting for most of the day, the heavy sun beating down on them, exhauting them. Finally, just when the Kraken were about to turn back to the sea lest they stay on shore and die, a figure could be seen in the distance. The weak Kraken began to grow overjoyed as it drew closer and closer, the elder exclaiming that that was the figure he had met, the christ, the savior.
And then came the horror. Thousands upon thousands of Angelenis' soldiers poured down on the stranded Kraken, swarming all over them. Try as they might, the legendary sea beasts had been weakened by the scorching sun and lack of water. One by one, they submitted to death as they were mercilessly slaughtered on the beach. Angelenis herself executed the elder, skewing his brain on her blade.
The Kraken were left for dead, their people not gone however. Angelenis' motive, however devious, was simple. She needed a design for a sea beast that was already feared, already powerful. However, if she just made more Kraken, the good Kraken people would resist and the last thing she wanted was another war front, especially with such a backwards, yet powerful tribe as the Kraken.
So, Angelenis tricked them to giving themselves up and then had them slaughtered. Furthermore, she was able to use the Kraken tribe as a template. She quickly made some modifications, making them even more vicious and useful, before sending them out into the oceans of the world.
When Angelenis fell, some of the Kraken, mysteriously, did not. They would linger on for many years, giving rise to the legends of the mythic sea beasts. Now, the true Kraken are back and ready to show the world why ancient sailors so feared and reverred them.
