Realizing that the plasma was having no effect, Pheonix turned his attention to removing the chains. While attempting to pry them off, he also fired plasma from his hands, superheating the claws, as well as firing it from his mouth at the chain.

By this time Pheonix was already chest high in the water, he wasn't heating fast enough to melt the chains witht he water even though boiling still keeping the metal cool. Gigan continued to pull him under.

[Psychozilla]

Pheonix growled as the Plasma had no effect. Glowing orange, the water around Pheonix turned quickly to steam as temperatures equivalent to that of the Earth's core melted away at Gigan's claws. Pheonix tossed the twisted stumps of metal away from him as he flew out of range, barrelling plasma into the water furiously.
