The Island of Monte Cristo, Mediterranean Sea, 7:00 AM
The brilliant sun rose over the barren island of Monte Cristo, bathing its rocks and dried out shrubbery with sun. The vipers that resided on the island awoke and began to slither about, searching for breakfast. Goats began to prance about the rocky outcroppings, searching for a decent meal.
Diving into a cave, a viper silently made its way into the dark recesses of the island. His reptilian eyes peered through the blackness of the cave, searching out for signs of movement and life. Far above him, above the cave itself was an ancient monastery. It had been built by a group of monks that had sworn to contain a great evil that supposedly resided within the island. Even after the monks left and the monastery was destroyed, the evil remained asleep.
Far below Monte Cristo lay the corpse of Angelenis. Yet this was no average corpse, not at all. Thousands of years had done nothing to her, her body was just as intact as it was the day she died. Creatures that were unfortunate enough to slip through the fissures within the caves and fall deep into the caverns in which the dark angel resided were absorbed into her, giving life to her corpse. It had been a near eternal process, just one of several ways that she was able to restore her life, bit by bit over all of these years.
Angelenis' eyes cast a glance about her "home" once more. Hell had been a pleasant place to stay for all these thousands of years. She was able to watch the world grow, and seep just a bit of her influence into the societies across the globe. Now, however, her time had come. She had gathered enough energy to resurrect herself.
She cast a final glance about Hell, her eyes passing over the myriad of souls suffering within its depths. As she went to leave, her eyes met those of a dark figure, hidden in shadows. A smile spread across her dark lips as she nodded to the figure. The figure, in turn, nodded back to her. With the exchange complete, Angelenis turned away and was gone.
As the viper that had entered the cave coiled itself to lunge upon a small mouse, the island of Monte Cristo began to tremble violently. Far above the island, the brilliant morning sun was blocked out by clouds as black as the darkest of night. Terrible slipstreams swept the island as cyclones danced across the seas, sucking up a continuous stream of of water to the black heavens above.
The cave in which Angelenis' resided was absorbed by a dark beam of energy who tore through the rocky ceiling and burst through the top of the island itself, piercing the ancient monastery. The viper hissed out its last as it was dragged into the prism of energy, completely evaporated. The beam split the clouds above it, causing the clouds to orbit the beam as it rose higher and higher into the sky.
An angelic tone sounded from the island, echoing beyond the seas. Telepathically, it entered the mind of every monster far and wide, summoning them to Monte Cristo.
