Kaiju. Hands down, they will dominate this game. Humans and others may move the story, and technology may level economies and mountains alike, but Kaiju are the supreme characters in this RP.
Despite the plethora of Toho, Daei, and other movie monsters running about, some players will still feel the need to create monsters that reflect their own personal tastes and character.
However, there are guidelines that must be adhered to in this department. Pre-existing Kaiju help set the foundation for this guide, and thus do not need their stats altered (unless the player is delibrately modifying them).
Guidelines for Size
A Kaiju may be as towering as 180 meters, but no greater. Serpentine Kaiju may be 250 meters long. Minumum Kaiju height, for both body types, is 3 meters. Tails may be up to 3 times as long as the Kaiju.
Mechanics of Kaiju Flight
Like any and all flying creatures, there is a certain science behind Kaiju flight. While it may be tempting to spice up your Kaiju with numerous wings, this is not reccomended. Too many wings can slow down a flying Kaiju, because in order for it to even qualify for an airspeed, it's main pair of wings must be twice it's height. You don't want to make your Kaiju a big, flappy target, do you? Besides, Kaiju are so large most of the time, they don't even need to flap their wings all that much. Just once to get them into the air, and any more to make themselves go higher. They stay in the air simply because their wings are big enough to keep them there.
Try and keep the number of working wings to about 4. Any more may be counted as decorative and useless for flight as such.
Insectoid Kaiju follow slightly different guidlines, because they tend to flap their wings very quickly. The minimum wingspan for them is 2/3 of their body length.
Kaiju Weight
Kaiju maximum weight is 800,000 metric tonnes. Minimum weight is 10 tonnes. The heavier you are, the slower you are going to be, no matter what you'd like to delude yourself into thinking. Medium Kaiju weight is considered to be anywhere between 50- and 100,000 tonnes. Heavy weights are 500,000 and over. True behemoths, who are few and far between, are in the 650-800,000 range.
Kaiju Speed
Now, although it is not listed, maximum Kaiju groundspeed is 500 mph, or 1000 kph. The reason it isn't a requirement is that it's a known fact a heavy Kaiju can't haul ass, unless he's nothing but a pair of giant legs, and it can be variable, depending on the Kaiju's stamina.
Maximum Kaiju Airspeed is Mach 10. Take into account this is for Kaiju that can *qualify* for an airpseed. Some Kaiju, like Irys, have no wings, but elaborate abilities that propel them at their fantastic speeds, so try and remember this.
Believe it or not, there is a minimum Kaiju airpseed. It is Mach 1.
Kaiju swim speed is tricky. See, most Kaiju theoretically *have* the ability to swim, but just aren't water friendly (example, Barugon, who drowned to death). Maximum Kaiju swim speed is 250 knots. There is no minimum. Only list the swim speed if your Kaiju is adept in the water to begin with.
Kaiju Abilities
While it would be nice for your Kaiju to posses a suite of abilities for every occasion, sadly, we can't all be Mothra Leo knockoffs. There *is* a limit to your Kaiju's ability, and you must decide what it is.
A Kaiju may have up to 6 special Qualities, and up to 8 special Techniques. Qualities range from immunities to latent powers, such as levitation. For every 2 immunities/resistances, you must have 1 weakness, which does not count towards the 6 quality limit.
It is *not* neccesary to have all the technique's, or any at all, for that matter. It just might make your Kaiju more memorable to the other players if he fought tooth and claw against impossible odds.
Now, most Kaiju are possesed of certain very powerfull techniques, such as Godzilla's Nuclear Pulse and Burst Beam, and Mothra's special Powder Techniques. While it seems that such moves make a monster nigh unbeatable, the thing is that if these techniques are overused, they can severely drain, or even kill, the Kaiju using them. Try and limit the use of such abilities to only 3 times in a fight, with the Kaiju getting weaker after each use. The 4th time is considered you're 'Final Move' and it is expected for the Kaiju to die afterwards unless there are very special circumstances present. (note: if you don't die honorably, then the admins will see to it that you die dishonorably. Don't try us.)
Kaiju Immunities
Some Kaiju are blessed with resistances to certain attacks and damages, to an extent. Game wise, these abilities fall under Special Qualities. However, you can't outright say that your Kaiju is immune to physical attacks, and weak to energy ones. You must say what *kind* of physical damage it is resistant to, such as piercing damage from claws and such, to bludgeoning damage from being clubbed or constricted, to slashing damage from bladed appendages. Same goes for energy resistances. And this all applies vice versa for weaknesses.
Character Development
Be creative, and above all, be descriptive, when creating your Kaiju. How many arms does it have? Does it even have arms? How does it think, feel, act? Tell us as much as you'd like. The more we know, the better we can RP. Just try not to go overboard.
Next, we talk about Kaiju behavior and intelligence.
Kaiju tend to be anywhere between moderately cunning to just plain stupid, and this is because they are basically grand animals. Vey few Kaiju ever posses human-level intelligence, and only a few exceptional specimens are ever more intelligent than a human being. As such, they tend to rely more on their intincts, and their behavior in combat reflects this (Megalon, who seemed to display a grasp of tactics, was really doing what came natural to him, and nothing intelligent at all). Remember that while your Kaiju may be flashy with it's moves and abilities, more often than not it won't display a full understanding of all it's powers until it has progressed some in it's lifetime. The only exceptions to this intelligence rule seem to be dragons, who are by their nature, highly intelligent creatures (King Ghidorah displayed a very good grasp both his abilities and of tactics, and was a very sadistic and canny opponent). Some Kaiju, such as Godzilla and Zilla, have displayed rather ingenuitive streaks, using their surroundings to their advantage, such as throwing boulders and detrious, or feinting maneuvers to lure enemy attacks.
This guide is meant to give you some helpfull suggestions, as well as set down ground rules. Above all, have fun when making your Kaiju. Just remember, it's a little piece of you... that just happens to be several hundred meters tall.
