No. I mean there are spiders that have gills. Of course they still breath water, I never said they didn't. Like aquatic mammals. This spider can, as I said, 'hold its breath', preventing drowning from its body being filled with water. Ok smart guy, I want one clear and DEFINED example of a spider that has gills.

I don't mean to be a moderator, but I think debating the existance of spider's with gills detracts from the real purpose of this thread and board...

I've never heard of a tarantula with gills. And if the two I owned had them, they kept it well hidden.
Shes a tarantula so keep that in mind. And I'll change the weight now.

I wouldn't worry about whether or not spiders have gills. This is fantasy. Godzilla is a theropod dinosaur. Reptiles can't breath underwater, but he does [Minya confirmed this in Godzilla's Revenge] so I don't see why a spider monster can't in a fantasy rpg like this. Also there are actually some aquatic spiders in real life that create a bubble filled with air which they use much like scuba gear.

.......... That was sarcasm. "smart guy". In your defense, I will admit that I made a typo(Of course they still breathe air, not water) on the second sentence.

Yea, good point Kurgan. I made it first! He made it more eloqouently... but I made it first! But yeah... a web raft sounds good. But the water walking thing would be impossible for her size without some kind of wierd... like... I dunno, water repellant force field.

I'd say it would have to be something that wouldn't break the water tension. Something that would copy the abilities of a water strider. Theoretically you can sit a penny on water if you don't break the surface tension, yes I've heard this is possible. Maybe she could spray or secrete some sort of chemical that would temporarily increase the surface tension of the water to allow her to walk on it.

well, actually, that's wrong. insects and spiders don't breathe as we do. their prosess of respiration is much different than ours. mammels have to expand their lungs to get air into their system. this process that is partially voluntary is what allows us to hold our breath. Insects and arachnids don't 'breathe' in the same sense that we do. along the sides of their body are little holes called spericles these holes lead directly to gill like structures. these gills filter oxygen directly out of the air. however. spiders and insects cannot voluntarily breathe. there are no respiration muscles. there is a constant flow of air into and out of the spider's body through these holes. therefore, a spider cannot hold it's breath and must bring all of the air it needs down with it when going underwater. the rate of consumption is based on metabolism, not the ability to retain breath. so Daemon was right. the oxygen bubble that they carry down is their scuba tank.
on another note, Water striders can walk on water for two reasons. the first is the shape of their feet, unlike most insects, who's limbs end in claws for securing themselves to unstable surfaces, water striders have fanned feet, almost featherlike, to distribute their weight over a larger area. they use the fans to ride on the surface, using the surface tension as we would a concrete floor. their legs also secrete an oil to help them stey afloat in rougher water in places where surface tension might be frequently brken or unpredictable.
also regarding weight. 80 tons is much to little. 10-30 thousand tons would be more appropriate. this is one reason why arthrapods don't get much larger than six inches or so. because their armor would be just too heavy to move. now, since this is kaiju wars and a fictional environment, the various giant insects are able to move rather well, however, their weight needs to be accurate for combat reasons. because of the density of chitin, a spider with a length of 120 meters would likely have a weight of more than 600,000 tons. but lending to the radiation theory, her armor was probably both strengthened and lightened for greater combat abilities. 10 to 30 thousand tons would suit her well.
any other insect or arachnid issues i can put to rest?

Actually, we knew(or at least I knew) that normal spiders and insects cannot hold their breath.
That doesn't stop a monstrous, evolved kaiju version from doing the same. We have a giant dragonfly capable of grinning with a fixed chitin body.

If you can scietifically explain how Hedorah, a walking and flying pile of shit is realistic, than you deserve the Noble Peace Prize.

Shes not a water spider.. though.. So I don't see any connection to the water... the type of spider she is, doesn't like the water.. I don't think. I remember when I owned one, he didn't like water at all.

So she's not aquatic and doesn't like water, yet she swam from Hiroshima to the Pacific Isles?

Of course. But the question remains how she would have done it without drowning.
